Afternoon girls, back from fun and games, and for once a productive day's work. Dashed into library to forage for more books. Found one about aviation during WW2 that I hadn't read, and two others.

Koko, really strange about the image. I can see the Butlin's Holiday Camp poster underneath this reply box, but not on thread.....scratching head myself. confused

Hi Helen, how are your moving plans going? Any luck in finding a new home.

Off for a large vat of tea.

Night Joan, sleep well.

Tea brewed Helen, so pop over for a cuppa. Do you take milk or lemon? Sorry I don't have any sugar, as don't take it.

Very heavy torrential rain here at the moment, so may have to switch off laptop and disconnect telephone plug. The poor veranda roof is taking a beating and rain is seeping through...oh crumbs.

Hello there, hope you are not awash June. Just a couple of showers here today. Just been to visit my brother and family who are staying in a holiday cottage near Lancaster, very nice too. On a farm so the children are happy.

Good Afternoon All, Just got in from a visit to the RAF Museum at Hendon where I went with my son, The plane in the GWR Air Service poster is a Westland Wessex June, below is a quote from the Aviation Forum, unfortunatly the links dont work as the post is over 8 years old Shocked

Quote :
'Between April 11th and September 30th 1933, the Great Western Railway provided the air service from Plymouth's Roborough Airport.'
http://www.plymouthdata.info/Air%20Services-GWR.htm

'Commercial aviation arrived in April 1933 with the opening of an experimental air service between
Cardiff, Haldon (for Torbay) and Plymouth initiated by the Great Western Railway Company. The
service, flown with Westland Wessex aircraft (including G-AAGW) provided by Imperial Airways, was
opened to the public on April 12 and later extended to Birmingham. Although the service only operated
for a single summer season, it served to encourage other operators to use the aerodrome.'

'On 12 April 1933 the GWR Air Service started a twice daily (weekday) service between Cardiff and Plymouth via Haldon. They chartered a Westland Wessex G-AAGW from Imperial Airways, painted cream and brown.'

Haldon aerodrome is long gone. Opened in 1929 and closed at the end of WW2.

Found this old film...you'll love it June

Oh thanks Sandra and Koko, great information and video. Sandra, I hadn't heard of a Westland Wessex.....fascinating days.

Gosh Koko that flying looked dicey.....reminded me of my futile attempts......don't the aircraft look flimsy.....just like little madam.

I have a new photo of little madam now fitted with her wings...just the engine to attach. Will put a photo on gallery. No, I will not be doing the air test....not that stupid.Wink

Hi Helen, just the way I like my tea......builders strength in a pint mug.Smile

Back from the office, and finally dried out...now warm and sunny again....and no watering today thank goodness.

Photo of Madam Four Wings now on gallery.....dear little lady.

Hi Lillian, lovely photos of your brother and family. Hope you all enjoyed your holiday cottage.

Thanks for link Sandra, don't think I will be trying to change a wheel at moment. Strange type of wheel, we have tyres on Tiger.

Gosh it's cold in house tonight...will be switching on heating in a moment.

Morning Koko and Helen, and those who follow.....

Another delightful poster Koko...those were the days........more sedate and fun in my view.

Hi Helen, what are your plans today?

Off to the office I think.....dull and dreary here......weather wise....and quite chilly.

Tootle pip for now......

Joan, I think there is a glitch on  this thread, as images are not showing, unless viewed in the 'reply' view. Locking you out!!!.....now there is a thought.....as if I would.Wink  It's not my Snug though, as our friend Sue (Rasrips)  created it when the forum started.

How are you these days....I see you have been taking yourself on a mystery tour around cyber space. Reminiscent of The Scarlett Pimpernel.....'The seek him here, they seek him there'.........still trying to work out who the third J is....perhaps an animal...or house name?

Must away, work to do......is the kettle boiling Helen, could do with another cuppa.Smile

Edit: Images are back....weird!

Good Afternoon All yes sorry to say I'm back yet again, have been without the internet for 8 days, as due to the storms we had last week here In Kent they knocked out my computer modem and have had to wait a week for a replacement, which arrived 2 hours ago, so hope that
I will stay around once again.

Have managed to find me a trip to Scotland leaving next Tuesday for 4 days so who knows could meet up with our Jess thats if she is not away.

Good to read June that the little old lady is at last nearly air worthy once again so will be looking out for your loop the loop over Canterbury June. lol.

Hope that you all are well and its great to be back Bye for now.
